Amelia

Amelia charges towards me.
Crash!
And somehow she lands
softly
in my arms.

She's going on about something
I can't understand.
Her English is so clear
until
it's not.
Sometimes I'd swear someone
is teaching her Japanese
behind my back.

Rocking her in my arms.
Her blue eyes stare
into mine,
deep brown.
She begins to calm.

I kiss her forehead
And say,
"I love you".
She quietly replies
that she loves me too.
Words
so rare
they melt me heart.

Her eyelids drift.
She curls against me.
Heavy.
Where did my infant go?
Her breathing evens.
We live for these moments
but...
Naptime
is here.
Thank goodness.

  1. I was a stay at home mom too and I cherished nap time! Beautiful way to capture these young moments.

  2. I'm with Leigh Anne, you did a beautiful job of capturing that nap time when all seems perfect and right with the world. My youngest is 7 and I snuggle with her at bedtime, knowing that those moments are precious.

  3. Ode to Naptime! The moments they slow down enough to cuddle are precious, aren't they?
